According to the German Welding Association (DVS) it is very much recommended to have your welding equipment tested and maintained once a year.
Excerpt from the guideline DVS 2208 p1 point 5.6:
"Following the manufacturer's indication, however at least once a year, maintenance of the welding equipment is to be carried out by qualified personnel with the necessary experience and proof of being qualified by the respective manufacturer...
